A Texas man who was imprisoned for beating and se*ually as*aulting three children experienced his own as*ault by three fellow inmates. This happened fifteen times after they witnessed his trial on the news. The attack occurred on 29 Sept 2021, as confirmed by Wichita County Sheriff David Duke after reviewing video footage of the incident.
It took place shortly after news coverage of Corey’s trial. The as*ault occurred while Corey was being moved back to a section of the jail that holds individuals accused of the most serious offenses. The entire incident lasted for approximately one minute. Michael George Corey, Jr., aged 36, has been incarcerated for three and a half years since his arrest in February 2018. He faced 45 counts of se* crimes against a boy and two girls, aged 8, 10, and 11.
He is currently being held on a bond of $675,000. Before this, he was on probation for 10 years due to three counts of harming children in 2016. Both situations involve the same kids.
In the first situation, he supposedly made the children bend over and endure up to 90 hits from a paddle that had zip ties around it. His foster parents were present while this happened, as per Wichita Falls station KFDX. Charges against the foster parents were eventually withdrawn.
In the most recent case, according to a statement, he also made the children do se*ual things to each other. They followed his orders out of fear that they would be subjected to even harsher punishments if they didn’t obey, says KFDX.
The police found a laptop that the children mentioned Corey used to play inappropriate videos during the abuse. They also discovered some videos, although it’s unclear what they show.
Corey is facing 45 charges, which include 15 instances of serious se*ual as*ault involving a child, 12 instances of encouraging or allowing a child to participate in se*ual acts, 10 instances of inappropriate contact with a child, five instances of exposing a child to indecent content, and three instances of ongoing se*ual abuse of a child under 14 years old.
The abuse came to light when the school staff reported concerns about an eight-year-old child. Police then uncovered the abuse of the other children when they visited their mobile home on Hawthorne Street.
During the search of the house, the police found a wooden paddle that had the words ‘Act Right’ written on it in black letters, as reported by USA Today.
The 10-year-old girl explained to the authorities that Corey would make her bend over and touch some bricks outside in the front yard of a house.
If she didn’t follow his instructions exactly and ended up on the ground, she had to get back up by the count of three, or Corey would restart the count of hits he was going to give her.
At times, she recalled, he didn’t even wait for her to stand and would just continue hitting her wherever he could reach, even while she was on the ground.
Tammy Lynn Vaughn, the foster parent, allegedly sat next to her on the couch and kept track of the number of hits.
Back in 2016, she told the police that she couldn’t provide a ‘reasonable explanation’ for not reporting the abuse, as stated by USA Today.
Officials from the court saw Corey with a bruise and a black eye the day after the as*ault occurred on Wednesday.
Sheriff Duke mentioned that within less than a minute, five jail officers intervened to stop the beating. According to KFDX, the three inmates responsible for the as*ault will be charged.
