FOETAL ABDUCTION: MOM-TO-BE KILLS ATTACKER

FOETAL ABDUCTION: MOM-TO-BE KILLS ATTACKER

In mid-February 2005, Sarah Brady and her husband were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their overdue baby when a woman named Sarah Brody called their home, claiming a package mix-up from a baby registry. This Sarah Brody mentioned a similar name and offered to return the package, which contained items from Sarah Brady's registry. There was no indication of the sender, and Brody claimed to have misplaced the billing information.

A few days later, Brody called again, and the two women chatted for about an hour. Sarah Brady saw her as a new friend, thinking Brody was just a "lonely pregnant woman." Sarah Brady visited Brody's home, and once more, an unidentified package arrived with the same billing information excuse. Brody invited Brady into her bedroom to search for the missing slip.

In the bedroom, Sarah Brady noticed an asthma inhaler with the name "Katie Smith." This raised suspicions, and suddenly, Brody collapsed to the ground, claiming to be in labor. She pulled out a knife and threatened Brady, preventing her from leaving. A fight ensued, lasting about 20 minutes, during which Sarah managed to grab the knife and stab Brody. She fled, not realizing that she had killed her attacker.

Sarah called the police, who found evidence of the crime. It turned out that Katie Smith, alias Sarah Brody, had been wearing a padded bellysuit and had created a fake nursery in her home, complete with baby essentials and medical supplies. She had used this disguise to deceive her family, friends, and Sarah Brady into believing she was pregnant and planning to steal Sarah's baby.

Police initially focused their investigation on Sarah Brady, as Katie's family members claimed she had planned to sell the baby for $5,000 and changed her mind to kill Katie instead. However, a lie detector test cleared Sarah Brady of any wrongdoing, revealing that Katie Smith had lured her to her home with malicious intent.

Katie Smith had a history of faking pregnancies and targeted pregnant women through their online baby registries, obtaining their personal information to locate potential victims.

As for Sarah Brady's feelings towards Katie, she shared that she oscillates between anger and pity. Some days, she's angry about what transpired, and other days, she feels sorry for Katie, acknowledging the desperation that must have driven her to such extreme measures to take another person's life and child.

The shocking and disturbing events surrounding Sarah Brady and Katie Smith's encounter highlight the dangers of deceit and the lengths to which some individuals will go to achieve their sinister goals.
