The Disturbing Crimes of Stacey Castor: The Black Widow

The Disturbing Crimes of Stacey Castor: The Black Widow

New York resident Stacey Castor came under suspicion for poisoning her first husband. She was later convicted for the murder of her second husband and made an attempt to falsely implicate her own daughter in his death.

Stacey Castor’s story is a real-life nightmare filled with evil, poison, and death. This wicked mother poisoned her second husband, David Castor, and made a sinister attempt to murder her own daughter, Ashley Wallace, all in a twisted plot to frame Ashley for her husband’s murder.

Stacey Castor’s trial is widely regarded as one of the most significant in recent history, leading to a special two-hour 20/20 feature on ABC and earning her the infamous nickname “The Black Widow.” Stacey Castor, from New York, was also accused of fabricating a fraudulent will in order to inherit her second husband’s wealth. Furthermore, she was suspected of using poison to kill her first husband back in 2000.

Almost managing to deceive everyone, Stacey Castor cunningly crafted a narrative of tragic misfortune, claiming that her first husband had suffered a fatal heart attack, her second husband had poisoned himself with antifreeze, and her own daughter had made a suicide attempt. Her attempts to manipulate the truth nearly succeeded in leading people astray.

However, the police exposed her web of lies, and in 2009, Stacey Castor was sentenced to 51 years to life, ensuring she would never taste freedom again.

In June 2016, on a Saturday morning, Stacey Castor breathed her last at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County, New York. At the age of 48, she was pronounced dead at the prison at 6:48 a.m. Her death sparked an investigation to determine the cause.

First husband Michael Wallace

Castor’s fascination with death seemingly started in the year 2000 when her first husband, Michael Wallace, the father of her two children, passed away. Initially believed to be a heart attack, authorities eventually determined it to be a case of homicide caused by the ingestion of poison – specifically, ethylene glycol.

Although prosecutors presented evidence suggesting Castor’s involvement in Mr. Wallace’s murder, she was never formally charged. The prosecution argued that she orchestrated the deaths of both her husbands in order to benefit from their life insurance policies and estates.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Castor had fatally poisoned her second husband. In September 2007, she used a kitchen baster to secretly administer antifreeze to him. In their bedroom, authorities discovered his lifeless body, with a bottle of antifreeze concealed beneath the bed and a glass containing green liquid resting on the nightstand.

Castor staged the scene to make it appear as if he had been depressed, drunk and had taken his own life by consuming the poisonous substance. These details were reported by MailOnline.

As the police closed in on her, the twisted mother attempted to kill her daughter, Ashley, while framing her for the deaths of both her lovers. In her sinister plot, she used a teaspoon to mix vodka, orange juice, and prescription pills, administering them to Ashley over a span of 17 hours after drugging her with sleeping tablets.

To further manipulate the situation, Castor composed a 750-word suicide note on her computer, pretending to be written by her daughter. The note confessed to the killings of both men, as the court later heard. The following day, Ashley’s younger sister, Bree, discovered her barely breathing on her bed.

However, Ashley denied writing the note, which notably contained the term “antifreeze” spelled as “anti-free” – the same way Castor referred to the poison during her police interview.

After hearing the distressing details of her atrocious crimes in court, Sentencing Judge Joseph Fahey expressed that Stacey Castor stood “in a class all by herself.”

The County Judge in the United States declared that Stacey Castor was guilty of the most abhorrent crimes he had encountered in his 34-year career in the criminal justice system. Castor was convicted of second-degree murder for fatally poisoning her husband, the attempted murder of her daughter Ashley, and forging her second husband’s will.

Despite being incarcerated, Castor maintained her innocence and made multiple appeals over the years, with a final attempt lodged in 2015.
