SAN ANTONIO — Stephen Michael Clare now faces indictment by a Bexar County grand jury on serious charges, including capital murder, attempted capital murder, and aggravated assault. These allegations arise from his alleged orchestration of a fatal incident of domestic violence on April 10, as detailed in court documents.

Following a judicial denial of bail in May, Clare has been detained in custody. The accusations against him involve the act of fatally stabbing his 11-month-old daughter, the delicate Willow Clare, in a location situated to the north, in proximity to Alamo Heights. According to court records, the indictment was issued on June 29.

Willow's sibling, the 2-year-old Rosalie Clare, sustained similar stab wounds but was ultimately released from the medical facility more than two weeks after the attack. Mariah Gardner, who was formerly married to Clare and is now 28 years old, suffered a gunshot wound, requiring a brief hospital stay. In a statement, Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales affirmed his dedication to seeking justice for the victims, prefacing this by noting that it is too early to determine whether the pursuit of the death penalty will be considered.

Gonzales conveyed, "Within our internal processes, the committee responsible for capital offense cases carefully evaluates each instance of capital murder, thereby assessing the feasibility of pursuing the death penalty. Given the recent nature of this indictment, it is premature to predict the inclinations of our office in this regard."

On August 9, Clare appeared in court, where his trial was rescheduled for October 10.
