Woman with Scorpion Tattoo Who Was Found Brutally Murdered in 1991

In a recent revelation, the identity of a woman brutally murdered in 1991 has been unveiled, marking the end of a three-decade-long mystery. Christine Belusko from Morris County, New Jersey, was identified through forensic genealogy technology, a resource not available at the time of her death. District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, alongside law enforcement agencies, disclosed this information during a press conference on Tuesday.

Belusko's lifeless body was discovered in a desolate field on the East Shore of Staten Island 31-and-a-half years ago. The heinous nature of her murder, described by McMahon as morally corrupt, prompted a renewed investigation in 2019. The use of advanced forensic technology, coupled with details from the clothing she wore, led to a positive identification in April 2021.

The investigation also unveiled that Belusko had a daughter, Christa Nicole, approximately 2 years old at the time of her mother's tragic demise. An age progression image of Christa Nicole was shared during the conference, emphasizing the urgency of locating her, as her current whereabouts remain unknown.

The circumstances surrounding Belusko's discovery were chillingly detailed by David J. Nilsen, Chief Investigator for the Richmond County District Attorney’s office. Belusko was found handcuffed, bearing the marks of fire, with over 17 severe blows to her head and evidence of strangulation. The targeted nature of the crime suggests an intimate connection between the victim and the perpetrator.

Despite the breakthrough in identifying the victim, no suspects are currently in custody. Authorities are reaching out to the public for any information that could contribute to solving this long-standing case. The District Attorney’s office urged individuals with details about Christine Belusko or her daughter, Christa Nicole, to contact them at 718-556-7085 or via email at info@rcda.nyc.gov.

The revelation of Belusko's identity and the tragic details of her murder highlight the advancements in forensic technology and the persistence of law enforcement in pursuing justice. As the investigation continues, the hope is that new leads from the public will aid in solving this cold case, bringing closure to a family that has endured over three decades of uncertainty and grief.
